Milk Powder Gulab Jamun

Gulab jamun is a traditional and very popular a Soft, milk-solids-based Indian sweet mithai soaked in flavoured sugar syrup.

Though gulab jamun is made of khoya but here we are explaining how to make gulab jamun with milk powder.

Gulab Jamun Recipe

Prep Time: 30 min     Cook Time: 30 min     Serves: 20-22 jamuns 

Main Ingredients: milk powder, maida and milk
Course: dessert, sweets

Level of cooking: Medium

  • 1 cup Milk Powder
  • 1/4 cup Full cream milk
  • 2 tablespoon ghee
  • 2-3 teaspoon refined flour (Maida)
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • Ghee or oil- for frying Gulab Jamun
  • 1.5 cups of Sugar
  • 2.5 cups water
  • 4-5 Cardamom 
  • Pinch of saffron


For Sugar syrup:

  • Put sugar, cardamom and saffron and water in any utensil. 
  • Bring mixture to boil over a medium flame when it comes to a boil, reduce the flame.
  • Keep stirring and cook until sugar dissolves completely.
  • Now check the sugar syrup.
  • It should be gooey in texture.
  • The thread is not necessary.
  • Turn off the flame and keep it aside.

Milk Power Mava:

  • Take milk powder, maida, ghee and baking powder in a wide bowl.
  • Mix them evenly with the help of your hands.
  • Sprinkle little milk over the mixture and mix it well.
  • If the mixture appears to be dry add a little milk at a time with the help of a spoon do not add a large amount in a single go, within few minutes, mawa will get soft.
  • Don't over mix the mixture just lightly mix it.


  1. Divide dough into equal Parts.
  2. Grease hands with ghee and make smooth round balls.
  3. Make sure there is no crack on the surface of balls otherwise jamuns to crack open while deep frying.
  4. Heat the oil in a pan over medium flame.
  5. When ghee/oil is a medium hot, test with a pinch of dough is it ready to fry or not.
  6. If it comes up imminently without changing the colour, then add prepared dough balls according to the size of a pan.
  7. While frying the balls don't touch them with a spoon, pour oil over them with the help of a spoon.
  8. Deep fry them until they turn golden brown it will take 6-8 minutes.
  9. Drain and Transfer them over a paper napkin.
  10. Let them cool for 5-8 minutes do not add them to the hot sugar syrup.
  11. Add the fried balls to the warm sugar syrup.
  12. Soak them minimum for 1-2 hour before serving.
  13. Serve then warm or chilled as per your choice.
