Zunka is a Maharastrian specialty, this dish is generally served with Jawar Bhakri and onions but you may also enjoy it with rotis.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Gram Flour (Besan)
  • 2 tablespoon Oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 2-3 Dried Red Chillies
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • 1/2 teaspoon chopped ginger
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic chopped
  • 1 medium size finely chopped Onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 2 cups of Water
  • Salt to taste
  • Green chilli to taste
  • Red Chilli powder to taste
  • Few chopped cilantro (hara Dhania)

Method:

  1. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds,Cumin seeds when the seeds crackle, add  asafoetida, dried red chillies, chopped ginger, green chilli& garlic and cook till garlic gets light golden colour.
  2. Add chopped onion and cook till onion becomes translucent.
  3. Add the chilli powder, turmeric powder, Bengal gram flour and salt and cook over a slow flame till the flour is lightly browned.
  4. Add 2 cups of water, stirring continuously, till the Bengal gram flour thickens and leaves the sides of the pan. Cook over a slow flame for 4 to 5 minutes till the besan smells cooked.
  5. Add the cilantro and mix well.
  6. Serve hot.
