Theplas can be made 'healthy' by skipping the oil that is considered so essential to cook them. They also make a great travelling snack, as they stay well for a couple of days without refrigeration. Ingredients
- 1 cup grated bottle gourd (doodhi / lauki)
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
- 1/2 cup low fat curds (dahi)
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder (haldi)
- 1 teaspoons oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
- 1 tablespoon Sesame seeds (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon carom seeds/ajwain(optional)
- Whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta) for rolling
- 1 Chopped green chilli or to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon chilli powder or to taste
- Salt to taste
Method:
- Mix all the ingredients and knead into a soft dough using water only if required.
- Divide the dough into equal portions.
- Roll out each portion thinly into 5-6” diameter circle using a little wheat flour for rolling.
- Heat a tava (griddle) and cook each thepla till golden brown spots appear on both the sides.
- Serve hot.
